Your Role As a Manager

Start by understanding the path most people take to becoming a manager and why this role transition can feel difficult for many. You’ll learn what core principles every manager needs to be successful and how to instantly find more ease working with the employees you manage.

Setting Up for Success

Setting expectations is at the core of getting the most out of your team. Being able to set expectations goes beyond just telling people what to do; it includes creating clear requirements and assigning ownership. We’ll also explore how to organize your team for success, including creating structures for accountability and what to do if expectations aren’t being met.

Vision & Values

Guiding employees to make excellent decisions, particularly when you’re not there is crucial to growing a successful business. Vision and values are often overlooked as practical tools that can drive autonomy, employee engagement and motivation. We’ll explore how to apply values-based decision making to your employees and build trust in their capacity.

Feedback, Support & Direction

Delivering feedback effectively is what we will be exploring in this module. We will be unpacking the how, when and why behind feedback best practices and what your role is in this art of providing feedback. We’ll also examine a model that will enable you to successfully delegate any task to your team.

Relationships & Trust

Retaining your team depends on building long-lasting relationships and trust. We’ll explore how to put relationships first while not losing the ability to hold your team accountable. We’ll share how to practically facilitate successful 1:1 meetings and what to do when dealing with difficult people.

Difficult Conversations

Having artful difficult conversations is often the number one requested skill most managers want to develop further. We’ll build a new understanding of how to hold people accountable and speak about the most difficult issues with ease.

This 4-week course consists of live group sessions, hands-on activities with your work team and 1-1 coaching and support. 

 

Each week you’ll:

  • Participate in live group calls that take place both Mondays/Thursdays from 10am-Noon EST

  • Learn and share your experiences with a small cohort of leaders from across locations and industries

  • Complete readings and practical homework activities that get you applying your learning immediately

  • Meet with your coaches for 1:1 support about your particular challenges

  • Focus on your strengths as a manager and how to do more of what you’re great at

 

Course Schedule:

Week 1: Preparation - Receive your welcome email, complete Gallup StrengthsFinder, meet 1:1 with your program coach and get set up for success

Weeks 2-4: Participate in live weekly sessions via Zoom. Classes take place Mondays/Thursdays from 10am-12pm EST. You’ll have pre-work to review before each session, as well as activities to complete between sessions.
